Worth the Read

Today’s recommended reads have the theme of reading.  Over recent years, I lost my passion for reading somewhere between learning to live in a new culture and language school.  This past year, I have been working on getting it back.  I am definitely enjoying the books I have been reading and I am learning so much more than vocabulary words and when and where to take off my shoes.  I hope you will find these articles helpful.  What are some things that you do to make time for reading?  I’d love to hear from you!

The death of reading is threatening the soul-“I’ve concluded that a commitment to reading is an ongoing battle…We have to build a fortress with walls strong enough to withstand the temptations of that powerful dopamine rush while also providing shelter for an environment that allows deep reading to flourish. Christians especially need that sheltering space, for quiet meditation is one of the most important spiritual disciplines.”

5 Ways to Make More Time To Read-“Hopefully, one day, my mind will thank me for the daily exercise. As Dr. Seuss says, ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.'”

10 Tips To Help You Read More Books This Year-“If you are caught up in the rat race, you may need to make some more radical changes than the ones I list below. But whatever your pace of life is, you CAN read. You DO have time. Say this to yourself a few times a day if needed- haha. 🙂 But it’s true. You make time for what you value. My husband enjoys playing golf. In the summer months there are once a month Senior Golf Tournaments he plays in. I plan a “mini vacation” day on those days & often curl up with a book on those days. Other times I simply have whatever book I am currently reading sitting handy for when there is a nice quiet space of time. I receive a blog “Stray Thoughts” that often reviews books that helps me in choosing a book to read. Do enjoy your blog. :0)
