Casting Down Imaginations

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” ~2 Corinthians 10:3-5

How do we cast down imaginations and thoughts that exalt against the knowledge?  How do we bring our thoughts into captivity?  Through Scripture memory.  When you are dwelling on the Scripture that you are memorizing or reviewing passages you’ve already memorized, you are not thinking about other things.  You can be doing any number of mundane tasks.  You can be doing some rather difficult tasks.  You can be running verses through your head and taking those thoughts captive, or you can choose to imagine all kinds of things that are against the knowledge of God in His Word.  What will choose today?

  1. The imagery in those verses really helped me at a time when I was discouraged with keeping my thoughts under control. When you take something captive, obviously that thing doesn’t want to be taken captive (Duh, Barbara!) So the need to be alert, aggressive, and “armed” with Scripture to take those thoughts captive was made more vivid for me.
